For 2 to 3 people (depending on the amount of side dishes) you need:
- 1 clove of garlic (Knoblauuchzehe)
- 600g Greyezer cheese (Greyezer Käse)
- approx. 3 table spoons grape juice (Traubensaft)
- some milk, amount depends on the consistency you want to achieve (Milch)
- Spices: salt, pepper
As a side dish you can serve pickled cucumber (eingelegte Gurken), potatoes (Kartoffeln) and, of course, wheat bread (Weißbrot) (take one with plenty of crust. It tastes best, if you buy the bread a day or two before you eat it!)
To eat the cheese fondue you need a fondue set which consists of a rechaud (small burner you can put on a table), a so-called caquelon (ceramic pot with a certain minimum thickness to ensure that the cheese does not get burnt and special spits.
To prepare the cheese fondue you must grate the greyezer cheese. You put the grated cheese and the grape juice in the caquelon and melt it (don’t forget to stir the cheese often, otherwise it will get burnt!). During melting it, you add by and by the desired amount of milk. When the cheese is ready you add the spices.
To eat the cheese fondue you prong a small piece of wheat bread (you can also take a piece of potatoe or anything else you like) with a spit and put it into the cheese.
