Matcha Cappuccino

In Japan you can get a matcha frappuccino®. We really liked it when we visited Japan so we wanted to make a matcha coffee. My first creation with milk, coffee, sugar, matcha powder and ice cubes (I put everything into a blender), was not that bad, but it was kind of bitter because of the matcha. A Japanese friend of mine gave me various matcha cappuccino recipes and translated them to me (since they are written in Japanese).

One of the recipes is the following:

For 2 portions you need:

  • approx. 100ml milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon matcha powder
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • approx. 70-100ml coffee

First put the matcha powder, the sugar and the milk into a cooking pot. On average heat warm everything up and take a eggbeater to stir it foaming (so you get the typical cappuccino foam). The foam is ready when it is steaming a bit.

Put the coffee  in two mugs and put the foam on top of it. As a topping you can take matcha powder or cacao powder.
